First off, some videos of various Quest3D project we found on YouTube. No need to download the big DVD from the Quest3D website… but, unfortunately, these aren’t as detailed. These were uploaded by our East-European colleges at http://quest3d.pl/ .

Tools
ShowCase - Since Microsoft released Internet Explorer 7, I envied their tab-view thingy, where you can see the content of all tabs at once. This is the add-on for Firefox, compatible with 2.0.
PatchMaker - A tool to create patches for your Quest3D projects as well.

Quest3D|log goes multimedia (remember that ninties buzz-word?), and we start off with an embarrassing video of a water taxi magically making a huge container ship crash.

Enjoy, and listen to the cute giggles near the end.
The competition for the 2007 version looks like it’s catching up.

Another patch for Ship Simulator 2006.
Here’s a blurb from the changelog:
NEW FEATURES
- New upload scores system
- Ship physics adjusted:
- Going backwards now works properly
- More realistic ship behaviour
- Tweaking of parameters
- Inland containership has two engines, this has been changed accordingly
- Free additional skin for the Custom P6
BUG FIXES
- Longitude in New York
- True wind direction fix
- Fixed issue with the horn when switching to a waypoint
- Resolved a bug that made the game crash upon exit
- INSERT numpad key added for creating paths in edit mode
Speaking of patches: someone should think of a proper way of patches .CGR’s. Currently with the Ship Sim we just replace CGRs and channels, so patches can become fairly big quickly. We even have discussion about what to include, just because of the file size… usually we still include everything, we don’t want to skimp on features. But it is a shame nonetheless.
Anyway, if anyone reading this has a good idea about how to patch .CGRs, or knows a program that just does bit/byte differences. Let us know.

The perfect event for the Ship Simulator was of course the Wereld Haven Dagen (World Harbour Days) in Rotterdam 2 weeks ago.
We have the pictures! Loads of people in the booth during those days. Young, old, parents, grandparents. They all sailed away easily and had a good time. Especially when crashing into something :).

Hopefully we will back next year. With an even better version of Ship Simulator.
There also is a new patch available, bringing the harbour-ship-game up to version 1.4.

As the Quest3D Conference in Wiesbaden is getting closer, the schedule is now known! Be sure to visit the speaker of your interest, and make sure you ask J.P Franssen some real annoying questions about the text-channels, he’ll love that.
Or ask Ferry about why unicode still isn’t functioning properly. Or anything else for that matter :-P.
Anyhow, the schedule can be found here. *UPDATED* The schedule has changed! Thanks Cristopher!

From the site: “Ship Simulator 2006 is a revolutionary new ship simulation game, whereby you get the ability to steer various ships in different environments. Both the graphical quality of the ships and their dynamic behavior are completely realistic, so the game is not only fun, but you learn something about ship maneuvering along the way.”
